Dr. Barbara Preib-Lannon is a doctoral-prepared Advanced Practice Nurse with more than 40 years of clinical, administrative, and educational experience in community, university, hospital, and clinical settings. She currently holds an academic appointment with Loyola University Chicago’s Marcella Niehoff School of Nursing.
Dr. Preib-Lannon has extensive experience in mental health, forensic nursing, sexual assault, and the criminal justice system, with a particular commitment to serving marginalized and underserved populations. For more than two decades, she has worked to reduce barriers to mental health care and pioneered school-based mental health services for children and families affected by mental illness, violence, poverty, and trauma.
As an educator, she prepares nurses to view patients through a “different lens,” emphasizing cultural understanding, trauma-informed care, and the needs of the whole person. Her teaching reflects Loyola University Chicago’s Jesuit commitment to compassionate, ethical, and culturally responsive care.
Dr. Preib-Lannon has presented nationally and internationally on mental health, forensic nursing, trauma, vulnerable populations, and the impact of climate change on mental health.
